Key Skills and Business Capabilities:
Years of experience working with many facets of EW. Beginning with EW Payloads for Defence, focusing on maintenance, and fault finding but also included modification of the payload, and updating the test systems associated with said payload. Considered an SME was involved in liaison for deployment and modification of the payload.
Radar Modelling for nearly a decade articulating complex radar system functionality within a plethora of software systems. One of the only complex radar modellers on newer systems using the most recent intelligence data source. Training and mentoring for radar modelling across multiple organisations as well as advice and discussions within industry for feedback and improvements for Defence to be able to create models for future development and complex systems.
Can take radar data in any format and understand how that radar operates and how to recreate that within software. The format can either be purely parametric based, text descriptions or written within code. Then a model can be produced depending on the required specification, whether this is purely verification of a specific function, system or MD entity. Or moving towards validation and more in-depth system testing to test capabilities of existing systems or new ones under development.
Able to articulate specific radar functions based on the type of radar and what its role is. Have a high level of understanding as to how the radar should function. Additionally means the creation of representative radar models to support software and system development. Assists with development for complex functions that end users and customers will feel is imperative to their use case.
Have led multiple projects for R&D within Defence, able to take in requirements and specifications for an organisation and investigate where the organisation needs to focus their efforts for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Written R&D strategy for the EW centre of excellence regarding the modelling, simulation, verification and validation department to enhance executive and managerial level understanding of current technologies available. It additionally allowed the team to focus on areas to enhance their own knowledge and understanding. Created recommendation papers based on strategies to allow stakeholders to have the information required to make vital decisions on where to spend resources for R&D, whether that resource is financial or personnel based.
All my defence career has been around problem solving, whether that is 1st Line on A/C work, up to current day where I have needed to utilise complex data structures and software to achieve a desired outcome. Able to articulate solutions to problems at any level and fully comprehend effectiveness and risk to each potential solution. This is not limited to technical fault finding, this also expands to managerial issues, as well as project and product solutions based on end user understanding and involvement in projects within Defence.
Self-taught on programming languages to improve my own effectiveness at my previous role. Have used said code on differing projects, including transformation and manipulation of data using python. As well as creation of basic software applications using HTML, CSS and JS. In addition, currently using dart to produce mobile applications.
Understood and read many simulations coding for radar function within Python code, or Python code derivatives. This code usually gives a high level of functionality to complex radar systems that can adapt depending on their environment. But can also explain basic functionality and modulation that are key factors to how a radar performs and looks in the real world to a receiver. Some intelligence databases are moving away from pure numbers and parametric data to incorporate simulation code to enable the future of testing and utilisation of the models in the software space. Understanding of this is crucial to enable full radar functionality comprehension and replication in the software space, or to fault find and correct when an output is not as expected due to bugs or misinterpretation of code.
Able to articulate information in many formats to personnel of all levels of understanding, whether that is SME’s, managerial or executive level. This can be heavily utilised during requirements or R&D activities to explain the need and reasoning behind key decision-making options. Additionally in training and mentoring, understanding the best communication techniques for delivering complex and technical information is key to ensure team learning. This enables greater output functionality and deliverables depending on requirements and specifications.
Am adept at managing difference workforces. Have worked closely with Military, Civil Servants as well as industry contractors. Therefore, proficient in managing teams that have personnel with different requirements and backgrounds. Can work effectively with them all to ensure the best outcome possible and ensuring effective output.
Worked closely with tri service teams, managing all differing requirements from a military perspective. Ensuring all course, and CPD activities are available to be catered for all personnel irrespective of their rank, role, or organisational branch.
Working knowledge of computers and networks. Able to maintain and improve capabilities through software and/or network enhancements. Able to review current systems and processes and suggest where wastes and losses within processes are occurring.
For multiple R&D projects, have needed to create separate networks to meet the needs of the project. Mostly revolving around standalone, bespoke systems to meet the requirements and demands of the project to ensure the project’s success.
Working at the modelling end of radar model production for many years, I have extensive experience on the requirements and specifications for effective and efficient tooling and applications that will meet the needs of the customer. Enabling understanding that will be beneficial in product development and beta testing of software to give the best output needed for the customer base and their specific requirements. Ensures companies can have much needed feedback from customers with the guarantee that it will meet deadlines and roadmaps without the reliance on busy customer base, that may offer limited feedback.
Have managed multiple labs in Defence around Mission Data testing. This includes being involved in all testing artefacts associated with MD testing, from the hardware to the detailed bespoke software for the test. Introducing new and upcoming technologies into the lab environment to improve output and assurance levels.
